CARRIE MAE WEEMS
Carrie Mae Weems is an African American photographer that navigates cultural identity, class, political systems, sexism, relationships and power throughout her work. She focuses on shedding light on the everyday and their relationship to the topics she wants to bring awareness to. I think she focuses her attention to detail and composition when creating and forming her work around subjects.
This image is a close up of a kitchen counter in a
natural state. The sliced melon gives familiarity
and a lived-in feel to the picture.
This image is of her and her daughter at their
kitchen table. She captures herself in her daily life as
if she is capturing the youth and time it was taken in.

DOROTHEA LANGE
Dorothea Lange is an American photographer that traveled a lot depicting the daily lives of people around the world. She considered the impacts of the subjects in their environments to portray feelings of empathy and power.
This image portrays a migratory field workers' home
at the end of a pea field. This home was also used in winter.
It seems as if her intention is to showcase some peoples
realities and the courage it takes for them to share their
situations with a vast audience.
this photograph depicts a man on the side of the road
shaving in front of the review mirror of his car. For some
people this is seen as very normal but in
other cases this can be taken as bizarre and very far
from the average person's daily life.
